Bill Gates, founder of Microsoft and one of the most powerful and richest man in the world, supported the Justice Department over access to an iPhone that belonged to an attacker in the December mass shooting in San Bernardino, California, as per The Financial Times.
Apple has challenged the Court’s ruling on the iPhone last week. Several prominent technology leaders, including Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, Sundar Pichai of Google and Jack Dorsey of Twitter have supported Apple.
Apple’s CEO Timothy D Cook has argued that hacking of the attacker’s iPhone would set a dangerous precedent and can be a threat to user privacy. On the other hand, Gates believes that this is just a one-time request by the Government and the company should comply with the Court’s order.
The order was issued on Feb. 16 by Magistrate Judge Sheri Pym of the US District Court for the District of Central California. Apple has until Friday to file a formal brief opposing the order to cooperate with the FBI.
