Bouygues Signs IoT Roaming Agreement With Senet

Bouygues Telecom’s dedicated Internet of Things (IoT) unit, Objenious has partnered with Senet, the first public provider of LoRa-based networks in the United States. With this the operator has signed the first transatlantic roaming agreement for LoRa-based IoT devices.

The partnership enables both organisations to develop interoperable standards and technology. The two companies said they will now be able to launch and commercialise new applications quicker as the agreement will overcome the complexities of launching into new markets.

Will Yapp, Vice President of Business Development at Senet, said: “We are thrilled to be partnering with Objenious as we continue to enable the commercialization of B2B IoT applications using LPWANs in the IoT space. Objenious has demonstrated a leadership position within the LoRa community as it has enabled commercial IoT solutions in France. Senet has done the same in North America.”

Stéphane Allaire, President of Objenious, added: “Senet and Objenious are the leading LoRa LPWANs provider in their respective markets. Choosing to partner with Senet to deliver a cross-regional offering for IoT applications on their open, standards-based network was an easy and obvious choice. We look forward to a long-term partnership expanding beyond France and North America.”

Bouygues Telecom launched Objenious in February to focus on the rollout of LoRa technology. The service provider aims to cover half of France’s population with this network by mid-2016 and has targeted 4,000 base stations to be equipped with the tech by the end of this year, when it will cover the entire population of the country. The non-profit Senet comprises more than 300 members who are working together to aid the spread of LoRa technology across the United States.
