Reliance Jio hasn’t only defeated Vodafone India in revenue market share but it has also lowered the gap with Bharti Airtel, the current market leader. The aggressive pricing strategy along with the rural market has helped the company to outperform its competitors.
As per the data shared by TRAI, Reliance Jio has extended its market share to 22.4% in June 2018. While Bharti Airtel is still leading the competition with 31.7%, Vodafone India and Idea Cellular have 19.3% and 15.4% market share respectively.
In the first quarter of 2018, Bharti Airtel’s revenue was 30.7%. However, Reliance Jio has almost doubled its share revenue from the first quarter from 11.6% to 22.4%. Analysts have already assumed that Reliance Jio will defeat its contender Vodafone India by the end of the second quarter of 2018 financial year.
Reliance Jio has already surpassed Idea Cellular in the first quarter. However, the merger between Vodafone India and Idea Cellular will make the company India’s largest telecom company. The merged entity will have 35% of the market share and will beat Bharti Airtel as well.
Both Vodafone India and Idea Cellular have been losing against Reliance Jio. The companies still need authorization from company law court to complete the merger that was finished by the end of June 2018. Currently, Reliance Jio has secured the fourth position in terms of subscriber base.
The licensed service of Reliance Jio that started its business in 2016 has allowed the company to earn Rs.7,200 Cr with a jump of 14% by the end of the second quarter of 2018. On the other hand, Bharti Airtel has risen only 0.9% and earned 10,200 Cr. Vodafone India and Idea Cellular both have suffered a fall of 7.1% and 5.2% correspondingly. As per the analysts, Reliance Jio can carry on with the growth if its sustainability is intact in the 4G network circles.
