Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Jio is all set to make a couple of launches in few months, along with its commercial 4G services in India. By April 2016, the company will launch an on-demand content consumption service, Jio On Demand, which will also include live TV. The service will be launched with over 450 channels on board. The service is already available for Reliance Group employees via an app. The pricing is not known.
The reports state that Reliance Jio On Demand will cater only Reliance Jio’s 4G subscribers and will come bundled with data pack. Its commercial 4G launch is awaited to be in April 2016. The factor that would differentiate Reliance Jio from other providers will be the content distribution, which would include on-demand video, music streaming, news and high definition television services. The pricing for the services is also expected to be competitive in the market.
Reliance recently received the license from I&B Ministry to function as a pan India cable television MSO. The company has built a customer interface and app store online named Jio World. Jio World will bundle the Jio family of apps, upcoming deals and account-related updates, and will serve as a guide to the entire Jio ecosystem.
Another area Reliance plans to venture into is the wallet services. It has partnered with the State Bank of India (SBI) to launch the digital wallet service called Jio Money. It’s also awaiting the launch in the upcoming months.
