French Internet of Things firm, SigFox and Irish service provider VT Networks announced the availability of SigFox IoT Networks across Ireland.
Sigfox’s IoT network operates in many countries, such as France, Spain, Portugal, the Netherlands and Luxembourg, and they hope to connect more than 1 million devices across Ireland by 2017. Earlier this month, the organisation announced a deal with Connected Finland to expand Sigfox’s global network throughout Finland by 2017. Sigfox faces strong competition from other IoT platforms, such as LoRa, Narrow Band – Internet of Things (NB-IOT) and Ingenus.
Telecom firms such as NTT DoCoMo, SK Telecom and Telefonica are backing Sigfox. The company provides a subscription-based low-power, wide-area communications offering for the IoT. It also said that it will bring IoT networks to 100 American cities by the end of 2016.
