The Japanese multinational telecommunications and Internet Corporation SoftBank Corp. and Aeris, the technology player in the Internet of Things (IoT) market, have established a joint venture in Japan, known as Aeris Japan K.K. The venture will roll out IoT and telematics services based on Aeris IoT solutions platform globally.
Aeris is already an established end-to-end M2M communications and IoT provider. The company has to its credit software and IoT capabilities with more than 7.5 million IoT devices under its management. Aeris also offers a telematics solution for automotive original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) including a full suite of driver, dealer and OEM services. The company claims more than 1 billion transactions per day.
The Aeris IoT solutions platform consists of AerPort connectivity management platform, AerCloud applications enablement platform, AerCore IoT network and AerVoyance IoT analytics platform.

The collaboration with SoftBank will enable Aeris to expand its presence across Japan, and in places such as India, Europe, and the United States. The new venture Aeris Japan K.K. will be headquartered in Higashi-Shimbashi Minato-ku, Tokyo. It will be headed by executives from SoftBank and Aeris including Hiroshi Akabori, COO, and Raj Kanaya, CEO, respectively.

IoT is one of the largest growing technology sectors in the world. Machina Research predicted IoT to account for one-quarter of the global 41 million 5G connections in 2024. Japan is the leading market for IoT and is expected to be worth $54 billion by 2020, according to tech research firm Technavio.
