As a part of its optimization strategy, the Spanish broadband and telecommunications provider Telefonica has established a firm called Telxius. This new global company will bring together certain infrastructure assets of the Group. Mr. Alberto Horcajo, currently CFO at Telefonica Brasil will be the Chief Executive Officer of the new company.
The new company intends to deliver a more specialized and focused approach to improving the ROI and aims to increase the services provided to other operators. It will also incorporate the third party assets.
The infrastructure assets that will be initially brought to Telxius include 15,000 Telefonica telecommunication towers in Spain and other countries, as well as the Telefonica Group’s international network of 31,000 km of submarine fiber optic cable.
Currently, Telefonica manages a high capacity fiber optic cable network that links more than 40 countries in Europe and the America, including the US. This international Tier-1 network carries more than 4,5Tbps of traffic throughout the year. It delivers telecommunications services both to Telefónica Group and other fixed and mobile operators, internet service providers (ISPs) and content providers.
In the upcoming months, the newly created companies, including the above-mentioned assets, will be gradually integrated into Telxius.
