Xiaomi Hopes To Win Smartphone Market With New Products

The Chinese smartphone player Xiaomi tries for a robust return to the market with the launch of two new flagships phones – Xiaomi Mi5 and Xiaomi Mi5 Pro. The devices use Snapdragon 820, the processor which Xiaomi VP Hugo Barra claims to make the devices ‘insanely fast’. It is said to double the performances of the devices, with half the power consumption.


Targeted at both domestic Chinese market as well as the international markets inlcluding India, Mi5 Pro features a 3D ceramic body that offers to make the device ‘extremely durable’ and wear-resistant. The device comes with a 5.15-inch display and weighs 129gms.

The smartphone boasts of 16 MP rear camera, featuring four-axis optical image stabilization. The front-facing selfie snapper is of 4 MP. It also comes with Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 3.0, offering 20% faster than the previous generation. The fingerprint sensor and home button are the other additions in this new design.

Xiaomi has tried to win over Apple iPhone in many of its specifications such as weight, camera etc. Mi5 Pro is 14gms lighter than iPhone 6s. Also, the device carries four-axis optical image stabilization, unlike the iPhone that carries two-axis.

The Mi5 ($262) and the Mi5 Pro ($354) will be available in China from 1 March 2016 and will come to India and other markets soon.
