Chinese equipment manufacturer, ZTE Corporation has recently claimed to have demonstrated the verification based on Narrowband-Internet of Things (NB-IoT) standards in China Mobile’s 5G innovation laboratory.
The 3GPP NB-IoT standards are expected to be finalized later this month, ZTE is following the 3GPP standardisation carefully and is ready to launch a series of new technologies and products. ZTE claims that the recent demonstration shows its innovation capability in IoT space, which in turn will enable it to promote the rapid development of NB-IoT ecosystem.
The network functions virtualization (NFV)-based virtual core network was used in this NB-IoT demonstration. ZTE’s 4G base station simulated the real commercial environment, and demonstrated the basic NB-IoT services and some crucial features.
Looking ahead, the NB-IoT technologies will deliver ubiquitous cellular IoT coverage by 2020. The commercialisation of NB-IoT greatly expands the possibilities of the communications industry. Together with its global partners, ZTE has been promoting and validating the NB-IoT technologies development, and has witnessed the large-scale commercialisation of NB-IoT technologies.
